Big Night for Stewart and Crew

It was a big night of racing including 6 full Features and Open Wheel Modifieds ran the popular Bump-n-Run event. Garrett Stewart beat Larry Burkins to win the final Bump-n-Run lap and ironically pulled his Mother in Laws ticket in the raffle and earned her a nice $250 prize.

Bubba Christian got his first win of the season in the Street Stock division and 2018 Thunder Stock Champion Ron Adams also got his first win in the second Thunder Stock Feature.

In the Open Wheel Modified $1,500 to win Feature Buzzie Reutimann lead the first 20 laps but could not hold off Garrett Stewart at the end.

Johnnie Yeoman Jr started in the back of the Gladiator Feature and made it up to first place by the end of the race.

The track will take its first weekend off in a while for Memorial weekend and then the Top Gun Sprints are back June 1st with the Florida Late Models and then June 7th and 8th will be the Prestigious 24th Annual Powell Family Memorial with two full days of incredible racing.

Volusia Speedway Park Set to Host 2019 Reutimann Memorial

Deleon Springs, FL – Volusia Speedway Park is pleased and honored to announce that we will be hosting the 2019 Emil and Dale Reutimann Memorial Race November 22nd & 23rd. This event has become the premier Open Wheel Modified event of the year and this year will be no different. The time of year and the venue will allow top caliber teams from all over the nation to attend, several will be coming back in February for DirtCar Nationals. This race will be a minimum of $10,000 to Win and as additional Sponsors come on board all of that money will be put back into the overall purse. It will once again be a 50 Lap Feature and sponsored lap money will be very lucrative as has been the tradition with the Reutimann Memorial.

This race has always been dedicated to the memory of Emil Reutimann Jr., age 56, Dale Reutimann age 17 and Dale’s close friend and crew member Gordon Stone. Dale was following in the racing footsteps of his brothers Buzzie and Wayne. On September 14th, 1973, Emil, Dale and Gordon were traveling to Golden Gate Speedway in Zephyrhills where Dale was scheduled to compete in a big race. Just south of Zephyrhills on Highway 301, a drunk driver crossed the center line of the 2 lane road. The two vehicles collided head on, the impact was so intense that no one survived the accident.

The Reutimann Family has been a great influence on many people and have been ambassadors for the sport of racing for so many years, it is a privilege to help them honor the memory of their loved ones.

To get involved contact Joy Reutimann at 813-363-5419, Shawn Reutimann at 813-215-1059, David Reutimann at 704-689-3388 or contact Volusia Speedway Park on Facebook or at 386-985-4402 or Tom Whipple at 954-614-6114. More information on race details will be available soon.

The All-New Sunshine Nationals Kicks Off Next Season Jan. 16-18 at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — May 1, 2019 — DIRTcar Racing will kick off the 2020 season with the all-new DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals Jan. 16-18 at Volusia Speedway Park. The event will feature DIRTcar Pro Late Models, Florida Late Models and 602 Late Models racing for a total purse of nearly $100,000, including a $10,000-to-win finale for Pro Late Models.

The DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals includes Feature events for all three classes each night at the Worlds’ Fastest Half Mile Dirt Track, with points assigned to results on the first two nights that will set the field for the Saturday finales, similar to the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series Firecracker 100 weekend.

“Dirt late models are an important part of DIRTcar Racing, and we are excited to showcase them in January at Volusia with the Sunshine Nationals a few weeks ahead of the DIRTcar Nationals,” DIRTcar Racing COO Tom Deery said. “With the number of late models running the 602 and 604 motors, especially in the southeast, we felt it was time for them to be the focus of an event like this one. For those further north, where winter is going to be around well into March and April, this gives them a chance to break free from cabin fever, head to Florida for a vacation and go racing.”

Just like the DIRTcar Nationals in February, gates will open each day at 5 p.m., with on-track action beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets and camping for the event are on sale now through the ticket link at DIRTcarNationals.com.

A practice night on Wednesday, Jan. 15, will precede the Sunshine Nationals, giving all competitors a chance to get dialed in before the action counts.

For information as the event draws closer, make sure to visit DIRTcar.com, and stay tuned to DIRTcar Racing on Facebook and Twitter.

Thunderstock Shock Claim Rule Revision

After much discussion with racers and other race tracks the decision has been made to make a minor revision to the shock claim rule in the Thunderstock division at Volusia Speedway.

The current rule is $75 per shock and claimer must be on the lead lap. This will be updated to $100 per shock and the claimer must finish in the top five. All other conditions still apply.

Some have requested that the claim price be increased more but the majority of people with input have stated that the intent of the claim rule is to discourage the use of expensive racing parts in what is intended to be an affordable racing class.

This rule change will be updated on the Volusia Speedway website and will be effective as of the April 6th race event.

New Racer Support Program

Volusia Speedway Park will be developing a new program intended to assist new people in our sport, this program will make the race track available for practice and provide experienced help to coach and assist both young racers and adult racers.

This program is a volunteer staffed mentoring system for the drivers, the crew and the car owners to help through the struggles it takes to get into dirt track stock car racing. Racing is one of the hardest sports to enter if you do not know someone already involved, this program is being developed to help those with an interest in our sport that don’t have the existing support network needed.

Many active racers, experts and owners have been contacted and all have enthusiastically committed to help those involved in this program, they will volunteer their time and knowledge as needed to make this program a success. Our rewards will be seeing new people enter and grow to love the sport we are all so passionate about.

Race cars will be on display this Saturday night March 23rd in the Spectator Midway area for fans to look at closely and determine if they would like to pursue what it takes to be behind the wheel and/or get involved in the sport they have been watching.

If you are interested in more information about this program please contact Volusia Speedway Park at 386-985-4402, Private Message us on Facebook or email Tom Whipple at TomW@VolusiaRacing.com.
